Infrastructure Australia’s 2019 Infrastructure Audit investigated the major challenges for infrastructure in Australia over the next 15 years but specifically did not identify any solutions. Instead, it called on industry to make submissions containing recommendations as to how this could be achieved. This report is our considered response to Infrastructure Australia’s request for submissions.

This report draws on research by BIS Oxford Economics. The research ‘The opportunity cost of poor productivity performance in the Australian construction industry”  conclude the opportunity cost (in terms of foregone construction and broader economic output, as a result of the industry’s poor multifactor productivity performance) could be valued at $35 billion for the 2019/20 year alone, with impacts on the broader economy likely to be higher..
