Michael joined UGL in 2014, initially as Group General Manager, Commercial and was responsible for leading the Governance and Risk discipline across the business. In 2020, Michael was appointed COO.

Michael is a vastly experienced senior executive having held senior management positions in the general contracting and infrastructure sectors of the construction industry for over 30 years.  He is a member of the UGL Group Tender Committee and sits on a number of UGL key project steering committees. Michael is also Chair of Australian Terminal Operations Pty Ltd (a joint venture between BP Australia and UGL).

In his role as COO, Michael has specific responsibility for the operational performance of all UGL fixed lump sum or equivalent type projects and attends the monthly and quarterly project/business reviews.  He establishes project corrective measures as necessary. Michael is able to build and maintain trusted relationships with key clients, partners and stakeholders including taking the lead as necessary when negotiating contracts and disputes.

With oversight of all UGL business operations, Michael strives to build a highly inclusive culture that allows members of any UGL team to thrive and develop their skill so that UGL’s desired organisational outcomes are achieved.

Previously, Michael was Group General Manager – Commercial at Tenix, held key senior executive positions at St Hillier’s and is a recipient of various industry awards. Michael holds a Bachelor of Building from the University of New South Wales and is a graduate member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.
