The Australian Constructors Association congratulates Labor on its Federal election win and looks forward to working collaboratively with the new government to improve the sustainability of the construction industry.

“We congratulate Anthony Albanese on this victory and, with no time to waste, we call on Labor to accelerate industry reforms, says Australian Constructors Association CEO Jon Davies.

“It is vital that the new government finally address the long-term reform challenges that prevent the industry from realising major productivity gains, reducing its impact on the environment and becoming an employer of choice equipped to deliver the project pipeline.

“With record investment in infrastructure and unanimous support for implementing reform recommendations, there is a real opportunity to create a legacy for the industry in this new term of government.

“That is why, we are calling on the new Federal Government to commit to taking steps to implement the Future Australian Infrastructure Rating (FAIR) initiative in the first 100 days of office.

“We believe FAIR is the mechanism to finally realise reform recommendations by the nation’s infrastructure advisor, Infrastructure Australia.

“FAIR will provide a way for the Federal Government to coordinate and incentivise reform in a consistent way across state governments without getting involved in project details.

“The findings from the recent Federal procurement inquiry point to FAIR and now is the time make it happen,” said Mr Davies.

The Australian Constructors Association looks forward to working with the Labor Government to strengthen the industry and grow Australia’s economy.
